In 1919 a Flemish (and inherently anti-Belgian,
or at least not pro-Belgian) veterans organization was founded named
the Verbond van Vlaamsche Oud-Strijders (Union of Flemish Veterans) or V.O.S.; they were called de Vossen ("The Foxes")). Their flags show large "VOS" letters, a Flemish lion appearing in the "O".
As an exmaple, the flag of the V.O.S. section of Koekelare", as shown on a leaflet published for Heritage Day, 23 April 2006, is a yellow banner with a double ring, the centre enclosing the black stylized letters "VOS", the oval "O" of which contains a black lion rampant; the outer ring contains olive branches, seven leaves on each side, and the black place name KOEKELARE underneath. Secondary design elements are possibly grey but the fringe (on three sides) is black as well.
